| Party Games for Kids
Gone Fishin
You will need a helper for this children's activity. Tie a string across the room and lay a sheet over it so no one can see what is on the other side. Use an old fishing pole, or tie a string around a stick or broom handle. Tie a clothespin on the end of the fishing pole's string. Let each guest take a turn "casting" their line over the sheet. Have your helper stand on the other side and attach small gifts, favors, or treats to the clothespin. When they're done, the helper gives a slight tug on the line. When the kids "reel" in their lines, they'll be delighted to see what they've caught!
Pass The Box
This is really fun, Take a small gift or toy that all kids would enjoy, then gift wrap it, but keep wrapping it with different layers of giftwrap. Play some music while passing the present around, when the music stops, the guest left holding it unwraps the first layer of wrapping paper, then the music starts again and the box is passed, then every time the music stops, another layer is removed until someone finally unwraps the very last layer,,,,, and that is the winner. It is kind of like Hot Potato, but this is an item that everyone wants to hold on to!
Statues
Played to music, all the players move round while the music is playing, when the music stops the players have to stand like statues, anyone who moves is out, start the music again and repeat as many times as you want.
Hats and Shoes
This can be played with just hats and shoes or an assortment of different clothes.
Put an equal number of different items into a bag a shirt, a hat, pants, socks, shoes. Each player will receive a bag. On the word GO they have to put on the items in the bag, the one to put all the items on first is the winner.
(Adult or larger clothes than the children work best so they can be put on over their own clothes)
Tied in Knots Game
Instruct your guests to stand in a circle facing inward. To begin, everyone extends his or her right-hand into the ring and takes a hold of someone else's hand. Then, they do the same with their left-hands. The object of the game is to see if they can untangle the "knot" by ducking under people, stepping over them or turning around. No matter what happens, they can't let go of hands!
Treasure Hunt
Can be played indoors or out. Can be tailored to a party theme.
Hide different things or objects. The players have to either collect a set number or find a list of things, the first to complete is the winner. Objects can range from pieces of silver foil, chocolate coins, potatoes, pieces of a picture, hats, gloves, socks.
This game can be played individually or in teams of players, but make sure that you have more than enough treasure so everyone can find something. It can be just a fun game or the team to find everything first wins.
Musical Chairs
Line up alternate facing chairs, one less than the number of children playing. The players move round the chairs while the music is playing. When the music stops they have to sit down on a free chair, the player without a chair is out, take away one chair each time, repeat until you have 2 players and 1 chair the one to sit down first is the winner.
Advanced Musical Chairs
This fun variation of musical chairs is set up just like normal musical chairs but with additional fun thrown in. Start the music and have the children walk in a circle around the chairs, until you stop the music. When the music stops, each participant tries to sit in one of the chairs. The player left standing must pull the name of an animal, written on a piece of paper, out of a hat. Then, they must act it out while the other guests try to guess what the animal is. Start the music again and repeat the game until all the animals in the hat have been acted out.
Mature Musical Chairs aka Musical Knees
Teens and adults love this one. All gentlemen must form a circle facing out.
All ladies form a circle facing in.
When the music stops two things happen;
- all gentlemen must get down on one knee
- all ladies must find a knee to sit upon.
Your first music stop will make your group even, since to have a knee you have to have a man.
Then you have to remove one of the men for the next round. Make sure he gets a parting prize from your helper.
During the game it can get a little wild since those women will go nuts to try to get on a mans knee!
The last man with a woman on his knee are both winners
Upset the Fruit Basket - Musical Chairs variation
It's a variation of musical chairs and works well with large groups 10 or more. Get a group of people to put their chairs in a ring. Just like musical chairs. Each person is placed into a fruit group, for example you could have 4 apples, 4 oranges and 4 bananas (you can add more types of fruit if you have quite a few people). Each group of fruit should be 4 or 5 people is good, add more fruit names if needed. Then everyone sits in their chair and you call out apples and only the apples have to stand up and walk around the circle. While they are walking you remove one chair and at some point you call out apples again and all the apples scramble for a chair. The fruit left standing is out of the game. Then next you call out either a banana or orange. But if you say "upset the fruit basket" then everyone has to get up and walk around the circle. The winner of course is the last fruit in the basket.

Name That Bug
Pair up your party guests in teams of 2-3 people and put a sticker or a picture of a bug on each child's back. Have the guests try to guess what the bug is by asking questions that can be answered with only "yes" or "no." For example, "Do I have legs?," "Can I fly?" and "Am I Green?" Note: You can use stickers of animals for variety.
Freeze Tag
Best played outside where there is plenty of room. The birthday child can be selected to be it (the person who has to tag other people) first. The tagger tries to tag all the other guests. If a player is tagged, he or she must freeze. Players who are not frozen can "unfreeze" frozen players by touching them. The first player to be frozen three times becomes it (the tagger) next.
Message Mix-Up
Seat your guests in a circle. Help the birthday child think of a message related to your party's theme. The birthday child then whispers the message to the person on their left, and so on. When the message has traveled all the way around the circle, the person on the birthday child's right tells the message out loud. Then the birthday child tells the original message.
Expect the unexpected when you learn the original vs. the final mixed-up message. Try again with another player starting the message and continue until your guests are ready for a new activity.
Red Light, Green Light
Before the game, lay two lengths of rope, or crepe paper, about 25 feet apart in your play area to make start and finish lines. The birthday child stands in front of the finish line (they're the Police Officer), while the others stand behind the start line. The game begins when the Police Officer turns his/her back on the other players and shouts, "Green Light!" He/she then turns around and counts to five.
While the Police Officer is counting, the other players try to run or walk quickly toward the finish line. When the Police Officer has finished counting to five he/she shouts, "Red Light!" and turns around quickly. The other players must freeze instantly. If the Police Officer catches anyone moving, that player must return to the starting line. Play continues until one of the participants crosses the line while the Police Officer's back is turned. That player then becomes the Police Officer.
Egg and Spoon race
If you are indoors, you may want to use hard boiled eggs, small potatoes or ping pong balls, if outside you can use regular eggs. You'll need to decide on a starting point and a finish line or a second line for a relay race.
You can begin this game with each guest being a contestant or you can play is as a team (as a relay). Place an egg on the spoon, the child must walk from the starting line to the finish line without dropping the egg or ball. The first one to cross the line with the egg still on the spoon wins. Make sure they only use one hand; or a variation is to have the spoon in their mouth holding the object!
If you play teams, divide the guests into 2 teams. Then split the teams so that half of the team is at the starting point and the other is at the finish line, if needed one child can go twice. To start each team has one spoon and egg/ball, other play from each team starts the race by walking the course (or to where a the finish line is) and giving the spoon to the next team member who goes back to the starting point this continues until all the players have completed the race. The team to complete the process first, wins.
Note: During the relay race, if the egg or ball is dropped then the team member can pick it up but must go back to their starting point. Make more complex by making contestant walk around obstacles.
Bubble Gum Game
This game can be played as a relay race or be based on individual times. Split your guests into teams of 3-5 people. Get some paper plates, bubble gum, and whipped cream (in a can). Put a piece of bubble gum on the plate and swirl the whipped cream over it until the bubble gum is completely covered. Then have your guests dig through the whipped cream and find the bubble gum. Here's the catch, players must keep their hands behind their backs and dig through the whipped cream with their faces! Once they find it, they must chew it and blow a fairly good sized bubble. Go through until every one has had a turn. The person who blows the bubble first is the winner. You can also do several rounds until you have one winner. *Depending on what your guests wear, you may want to have a towel or garbage bag to use as a bib. Thanks - Hanna
What If - Group Game
Everyone sits in a circle and each person has a piece of notepaper and a pencil/pen. Each person then thinks of a sentence to write on the paper starting with WHAT IF... Be creative... (Example: What if John had a tupe?, or What if the world was black and white?)
Then each person passes their paper to the right and then each person answers the question they were handed. (Example...I'd use it as a frisbee, or the world would be a much simpler place.) Once everyone is finished answering their question, start with one person in the circle and go to the right, the first person reads the what if question and the person to their right reads the answer they wrote for their question. (So it would be... What if John had a tupe'? ....the world would be a much simpler place.) Then that same person who just read their answer now reads their question and the person on their right reads their answer and so on until you finish the circle.

Spoon Race
Requires two opposing teams lined up side by side, two spoons and two spools of fishing line. Secure the fishing line securely to each spoon and hand it to one of the ends. They drop the spoon down through their clothing onto the floor, pick it up and hand it to the next team member until it has reached the end person who after dropping it has to begin to retrieve the spoon by pulling it back up through their clothing. Do this until the spoon has been retrieved by the end person who started it. Whoever finishes first, of course, is the winner. Thanks - Angella
Toothpick - Lifesaver Race
First divide your group into 2 teams, each team will need to be lined up facing the forward. Then take a bunch of toothpicks, give each person a tooth pick and then the person at the beginning of the line gets the lifesaver. Before you begin everybody puts the toothpicks into their mouth and then the captain (first person in line) puts a lifesaver on the toothpick. the object is to pass the lifesaver from team member to team member using only the toothpick, no hands! The first team to pass it down to the end end of the line wins.
If the lifesaver falls on the floor then you must start at the beginning again. (Another variation that it is easier is straws and pretzels) Thanks - Zach
Balloon Stuff Game
Teams are made by dividing the party guests (more than two teams will work fine). Each team is handed a few bags of balloons and a bag that contains a large shirt and pair of pants. Each team chooses a person in their group to put on the clothes, the rest of the team will be blowing up the balloons. When the "facilitator" says "GO !" each team begins to blow up the balloons and the designated person/volunteer pulls on the large clothes. When the person is "dressed", teammates begin to stuff the inflated balloons in the shirt and pants as fast as they can. Some balloons will pop. After a predetermined period of time has expired, everyone must stop stuffing balloons in the shirt and pants.
The winning team is the one that has the most balloons stuffed into their "volunteer's" clothing. No need to pull the balloons out from underneath the clothing...you simply use a long hat pin to pop each one while everyone counts. When I have played this with adults, some balloons in the shirts aren't popped until last. Your volunteer goes from looking like the Michelin Man to a well developed Barbie doll.
(One warning, the volunteer should have clothing that covers most of their skin because when the balloons are popped it can sting bare skin.) I have played this game with 4th grade children, however, the balloons were inflated for them and poured all over the floor.
Sock Game
Do you have a lot of single socks, well this game is for you. Get two plastic storage containers, empty boxes, or laundry baskets and place a bunch of socks in each basket, split your kids up into two groups.
One group for one basket and the other group for the second basket, have the same number of socks in each basket.You'll need to have one player from each team as contestants. Set up a starting line a few feet from the basket and when you are ready say "Go." The kids will then rgo to the basket and put on as more socks as they can in 60 seconds. At the end of 60 seconds, you'll need to count how many socks they are wearing, you have the rest of the kids help you count socks as the kids take them off, doing one kid at a time. The kid with the most socks on wins! Then you let the next two kids go, until all the kids have had a turn.

Sock Game Relay
Take the sock game premise. In this game, you place an even amount of socks in each basket, let's say 6. The group is split into teams, example 4 each, and 3 team members are put at the starting end and 1 at the other. The distance can be 10 - 15 feet between the team members.
The first player must run to the basket and put on all of the socks and then run back to the starting line, take them off, and then the next team member must put them on. After the second team member puts them on the must go to the member by the basket and take the socks off, etc... - the winning team is the one that has the last team member put on all the socks and then cross the fininh line.
Cats Tails Game
Get long strips of cloth any extra you have a round make them at least one yard long and have the kids put them in the back of there pants, with it just hitting the ground. Then the kids run after each other trying to step on there tail. When they lose there tail they are out of the game the winner is the last one with a tail. A couple rounds of this game should tire them out real fast.
Clean Your Room Game
You'll need 2 socks for each player, some rice and a fence or some sort of divider. Fill each sock with rice or beans, about half full. Tie a knot in them. You'll need a fence or some sort of divider, consider string a line from one tree to another if you have no other options. Place kids on each side of rope and place the same amount of socks on each side. Have the kids throw the socks back over the rope, in order to clean there room. Give them a minute or two and then end the game. The side with the most socks after a minute is the winning team.
Yarn Twist
*Works good with a lot of players. You can play this game at just about anytime, especially birthday parties after everyone has had cake and is really hyper! Get everyone into a circle facing inward and give everyone a ball of yarn. Have them throw their ball to everybody while holding onto the end (Example: Sarah throws her ball to Taylor while Taylor so throwing his to Erin) Now see if you can undo the knot!!! Shoes in the Dark
It's best to play this game with a lot of people with different sized shoes- but none that are specially ordered. Most fun when it is dark outside or you can just close all of the blinds and curtains in the house. (try to make it as dark as possible.) Have everyone take off their shoes and put them in a big pile. Then tell everyone to go and sit far away from each other and far away from the shoes. Mix up the shoes as best you can, then go and turn off the lights. (Make it as dark as possible). (If you're playing, make sure to keep a spot for you and to take off your shoes.
Then, one by one, have the birthday kid call out people's names. When a person's name is called, they have five seconds to make their way to the shoe pile and grab two shoes. (The point is for them to be different.) Then they can go back and put them on (well, try to) while the birthday kid calls out everyone's names, putting them in the middle somewhere. Each time the birthday kid calls someone, they say 'Go!' and everyone can count down from five to zero, that way the person can't stay to find their own shoes. It's a lot of fun to play this with girls and boys because my boyfriend ended up with my friend Avery's tiny sandal!! He's also a comedian to begin with, so we ended up rolling on the floor. (some people may end up with two right foots or two left foots. that's part of the game.)

The Sweet Ring Toss Game: (Use year round not just Halloween)
Materials:
1.Three rings (at least 6 inches in diameter) -- these can be made out
of cardboard, wooden craft rings, needlepoint rings or rings cut from
coffee can lids.
2. Individually-wrapped candy and/or novelty toys
3. A plastic/vinyl table cloth (Halloween or fall colors are nice) or a
bedsheet. What to do: Spread candy and toys on the table cloth on the floor. Have
children take turns tossing the rings (each may have three tries) on
the cloth. They "win" anything that is within the ring. You can make
this game harder or easier by having children stand farther or closer
to the sheet with candy.

Whistling Game
Okay, noise group? This will keep them quite for a little bit. Have a group of children sit on the floor and give each child 5 or 6 saltine crackers. Object of game is for the kids to eat the crackers as fast as possible (with no water), and the first person to be able to whistle after eating the crackers win.

Silent Charades.
On little pieces of paper, write up a bunch of things to act out in pairs. You will need to know how many people are going to play so that you have the correct number of papers. (2 pieces of paper with the same thing on it--ie: ballerina, ballerina, elephant, elephant, etc.) Put them all into a hat mixed together and have everyone draw out one peice of paper. When everyone has a charade, say go, and everyone begins to act out the charade on their piece of paper. The object of the game is to find the person with the same charade as yours. When you find the person that has the same thing as you, sit down on the ground. After the game is over, have everyone ask their partner what they were, if they were wrong they are out. There can also be a prize for the first pair that sits down. This game is the most fun when you can make each thing pretty difficult to act out.

Gift Unwrap Game Take: For Birthdays and Holidays
Number of players: about 10-30
Type: Can be a stunt, if the group is very large, or the entire party may play Winner: The person who FINISHES unwrapping the present
How to play: A gift is placed in the center of the group. A basket with dice is passed around. When a person rolls double sixes, they run up to the gift, don the hat, scarf and gloves (goggles if you want too!) and begin unwrapping as fast as they can. (The more items they need to put on the less they'll be able to unwrap) The dice continue to be passed and as soon as someone else rolls double sixes, they take their turn at the present. Play continues until the present is completely unwrapped.
Items needed: Dice, Basket, Hat, Gloves, Scarf, one very well wrapped present. It helps to have several layers of wrapping paper and even boxes within boxes to keep make the game more challenging.

Cotton Ball Game
Supplies:
Bag of cotton balls, two large bowls, a blindfold and a wooden spoon.
The goal is to move as many cotton balls as possible with three "scoops" of the wooden spoon, from one bowl to the other - - blindfolded. The person that moves the most cotton balls into the other bowl wins. Cotton balls that fall on the ground don't count. In case of a tie, go additional rounds.

Balloon Burst - Activity
Blow up lots of big sized balloons and before putting a knot in them, push a small wrapped candy inside (small tootsie rolls, individually wrapped lifesavers, dum-dum lollipops work well, or pieces of paper that name prizes). Spread all the balloons around the floor at the party and let guests go wild sitting on them and popping them. Obviously once popped, they can have the treat that's inside. This can be great fun for young children.

Balloon Stomp Game - NEW
Tie balloons to your ankles an stomp on each other's balloons and try to pop them. Alot of movement may be required. 6 or more players can play.You'll need rubber bands and balloons. Blow up alot of balloons and tie a rubber band to each of them. Put a balloon around each players ankle by stretching the rubber over their foot. If you want you can put a balloon on each ankle. Make sure players wear shoes to protect thier feet. Play some music and have everyone stomp around, trying step on and pop other players balloons. Whoever has the last balloon left around their anke is the winner!

Balloon Keep It Up - Kids Game - NEW
Break the guests into groups of 4to 5 people and let them know they are going to be bouncing a balloon back and forth. Sounds easy enough. Then tell them that the balloon must always be hit from the bottom and always be hit upwards. If you let the balloon hit the ground the person who's turn it was is out, if the person hits the balloon with the wrong body part they are out. This game is played in rounds, so once a groups balloon hits the ground, they stop until all the groups have finished.
Ok - The fun part as they play this game - One person (adult) calls out the body part by which the next person must the balloon with: Examples: Hands, feet and knee are easy ones, but elbow, head, and hips/butt make the game harder. Take the winners of the first round and have them play off or continue until there is a one winner. Silly but fun.

The Star Game (night game)
For this game buy a bag of those glow in the dark stars(it's fun if the stars are all different sizes) Before the guests arrive, throw the stars all around the yard. Once it gets dark, see who can fin the most stars! Have the stars be the prize or give a party favor for the one who has the most starts. This can also be a fun game at family reunions.

Balloons and Beads
Supplies: Balloons, beads, rope
Fill the balloons with whatever amount of beads, try to divide up evenly. Hide the filled balloons around the house or outside (works best outside). Get in groups of two each and tie one set of hands and one set of feet together with rope. Then send the groups off the find the balloons. They have to pop the balloons by themselves (no popping utilitys!) and whoever has the most beads in the end wins the game!

On Target - Soda Bottle Game
Supplies: String, 1 Soda Bottle per person, (either lifesaver, paper clip, other)Divide the group into two teams and line each team in a row. Each team member will be given a string to tie around their waist. On the end of the string will be tied something that will fit into the bottle.(example: life saver, paper clip, clothes pin). Now place the soda bottles on the floor in front each kid. When the host or hostess or Mom says go each team member must try to put the object on the end of string into the bottle without touching the
string. Add some difficulty by have the kids start rocking side to side before the start, oh it's good to be the parent. When a team member has their object into the bottle they can sit down with it still in the bottle. The first team to have everyone sitting down wins.

Balloon & Bubble Gum Relay
What you'll need: Balloons, bubblegum (wrapped, individual pieces).
An open space like the living room, carpet (they will be running and you don't want them to slip!). Blow up the balloons, with a piece of gum inside each one. Set the kids up into two teams, or three, in a line. Have a ballon at each end. When you say "Go!" they crawl to the end, and have to pop the balloon. They grab the piece of gum, unwrap, and have to blow a full bubble. Once they have done that, they may run back, touch the next player's hand, and it continues. the first team to finish wins.

Sponge Relay Race - Water Game
You divide all the birthday kids into two teams. Then, you put two buckets at the end and give each team one sponge, with a bucket of water at the teams starting line. (So there will be two buckets full of water. The ones at the end are empty) The first person on each team dips there sponge into the water and races down to the other end and squeezes the sponge into the empty bucket. The first team who has their bucket full, wins.

Water Balloon Games
Depending on how many guests you have and which game you select you may nee to fill up over 100 water balloons before the party starts.
- The first game involves teams of two. Each team gets one balloon. They start really close to each other and the teammates have to toss them back and forth, with each successful toss they both take one step back. If your balloon pops then you are out. The last team standing wins. - The second game is hot potato but you sit the kids further away from each other so they have to toss it. Everyone who gets wet is out. and each person left with the balloon is out too. -The third game, is free for all let them have a water war with the balloons. -The last and final game. You give everyone a bucket as a party favor, and you tell them who ever picks up the most balloon pieces out of the yard gets the last and final prize. The kids will clean the yard so well.

Shopping Lists
Each team will have a guy and a girl. Girls should stand on a row. Their partners also stand facing them on another row. Keep a space about 25 feet between (partners) two rows. Give all the boys a piece of paper and a pen or a pencil. Give each girl a shopping list. This list should content about 10 items. (Example : 1 bottle of milk, 2 packets of gelatine, 4 slaps of chocolate, 4 pounds of sugar, etc.) Those lists should different to each other to avoid copying from other person. At "go" Girls read out the list they have to their partners and the partners should take down the lists according to the correct order they read. The person who write down the list first will be the winner. A very loud and entertaining game.

Gift Grab - Card Game
The idea is to have 2 decks of cards, pass out one deck of cards to everyone at the party circling around giving everyone one at a time until all the cards are gone. Hopefully everyone will come out with an even number of cards.. Have a bunch of nice little gifts wrapped 5 or 10 depending on the amount of guests.. Put the gifts in the center of the room..
Then with the second Deck of Cards have someone call out each card, the person that has the card that is called gets up and picks a prize, when all the prizes are taken from the table, everyone can steal the gifts from each other, when the whole deck has been called out the people with the prizes on their laps keep them..
This game is fun because everyone likes to pick a certain prize that looks interesting and they try to steal it back and forth and other people try not to let you remember they have a prize, but of course they have to keep them in the open....

Grab The Balloons Game
Blow up 15 - 20 balloons, place them on the floor. Each person has a limited amount of time (I used 2 minutes) to pick up and hold as many balloons as possible. Each person takes a turn, whoever held the most balloons at the end of thier time wins. This was a hoot! You can only hold so many in your hands, one guy put them up his shirt, between his legs, under his arms, in his teeth, and beleive it or not, he put the tie end of a balloon up his nose! And he wasn't the one that won! No one can help them pick up balloons, that way, when they have them between their legs, or under their arms, when they walk or bend to pick up more balloons, they lose the ones they already have. Lots of fun to watch!

Sleepover Game - Stuffed Animal Find
Have all the people that are coming to the sleep over bring a stuffed animal. Once they arrive, take their stuffed animal and place it in a pile, you could also use a large box, with the other stuffed animals. Then during the party, gather your guests and blindfold one and have them search through the pile to find their stuffed animal using only their hands. Everyone that finds their's gets a small prize.

How to play. It's kind of like hot potato, except you have the guests either stand in a line, or a circle. You give them ONE bag to pass. When the music stops. That person opens the bag and has to either Wear it - Play with it or - Eat it. Then they are out. Then you add another back, they pass the bag again, and when the music stops... you get it? The last two players will duke it out for TWO bags, not knowing who will have to Wear it - Play with it or - Eat it!

This game is fun for people of all ages. You will need a hula-hoop and to split the group into two teams. Then have the guest form two lines. Each line holds hands and the hula-hoop has to get from one end of the line to the other without any hands separating.

Kitty Theme Party
When our daughter turned 6 we had a Kitty Party. She loves kittens so we got a big poster of a kitten and cut out tails. We had the blindfolded kids play "pin the tail on the kitty". When the guests arrived, we painted each guests face like a kitty. We had a kitten cake and all of the wrapping paper was kittens. Instead of little party bags we gave out little TY kitties to the guests. I couldn't find party hats and plates with kittens so I bought red party hats and printed kittens off of the computer to glue on the hats. The guest did lots of mewing during the party :)

Glamour Slumber Party - RED CARPET NIGHT
Have a slumber party with the idea of dressing up like super models, actresses or just to be outrageous. Have the girls dress up with a boa, fun dresses, costume jewelry and add a few wigs for unique looks. Have a digital or disposable cameras around so everyone can have a photo shoot.
Depending on the age of your guests, this works best with a group of 10-12 years olds. You may or may not want to use real make-up; some parents might object. Or get make-up with sparkle for fun.
Add a fun movie, a board game, or share stories about being a glamour gal.
After everyone gets dressed up, you could have fun giving them a bio. (write up some info on index cards - Name: Franchesca from Denmark, run way model) Then once everyone has a card they must act the part, and you the host can interview them. Get out the video camera and ask questions about where they are from, what was there last job, etc... be creative have fun, laugh, and enjoy. Then you can burn a CD of the red carpet night and give one to each girl as a lasting memory.
